About the Book
The bell of Christ Mercy Chapel has rung every Sunday for over a hundred years. Then one morning, it stopped.
Nkechi Okoro is a sixty-two-year-old widow who has buried two sons and raised one who doesn't call. She notices the silence before anyone else. And she knows what it means.
Before the missionaries came, there was a shrine by the river. People gave things to it to keep trouble away. The missionaries built over it and hung a bell. They said the sound would hold it down.
Now the bell is silent. And the ones in the water are waking up.
The Last Bell of Aba is a story about remembering, forgetting, and the cost of standing in the gap for a city that has forgotten its own history. For readers who love African fiction, supernatural suspense, and stories of ordinary people facing extraordinary things.
